The Jail of Adigrat could rather be defined a rehabilitation house instead of a prison. All the prisoners ( 1300 men and 50 women) have a regular daily work within this structure that could somehow be considered as a good example to take into consideration in spite of the evident lack of funds by the local administration. The philosphy of the jail is to "occupy" prisonners, with different training workshops and recovery school programm. All of the prisoners have the ability to sell and commercialize their products such as clothes, fabrics, carpets, handicraft. The objective is to guarantee professional training for their future, make detainees independent from the moment they leave prison, restore their dignity for the future allowing them, through training, to have a creative job and good mental stability/equilibrium.
In 2010 a beauty parlour for women training workshop was built, in 2011 a water well was digged, in 2012, 1300 mattresses and 25 bunk beds were donated by the Butterfly onlus ngo.
